Becca and Reid's Countryside Vow Renewal // Styled Shoot
It was a beautiful day in early September, the perfect day for a styled vow renewal featuring an amazing team of vendors, and an adorable married couple, Becca and Reid. For this lovely vow renewal, I wanted the aesthetic to be warm and welcoming, with a neutral palette, landscape setting, and tons of texture!
We started with portraits, as every good shoot does. But these were made even more beautiful in the earthy bush, our location taking us an hour or so south of Calgary, to a little valley in the countryside of Alberta.
Becca was dressed in a stunning Flora Bridal gown from Blush and Raven, and we added beautiful gold pins in her hair, crafted by Davie and Chiyo. Her hair was gently braided back into a stunning fishtail, and the gold leaf pins added the prettiest touch to the elegant ‘do. I wanted the bridal look to be natural and elegant, which the hair & makeup team, Bellamore Beauty, accomplished beautifully.
Reid, the groom, was outfitted in Ed William's Mens Wear, wearing a crisp white shirt and fitted pants, and later changed into a contemporary knitted sweater for the evening portion.
This just goes to show that for wedding events (or vow renewals), the outfits don't always have to be over-the-top extravagant to be lovely and elegant. Sometimes dressing a little more casually (ie. boots rather than heels) is the best way to remain comfortable and content throughout a long day of events.
This styled shoot definitely lends itself to autumnal styling, and the florals that Fall For Florals provided were no exception. I loved the unique arrangements of dried florals paired with wildflowers. The bouquet almost looks as if it could be picked from the location we were on! That is how perfectly they suited the event.
Next up, the main event! When Becca and Reid shared their new vows to one another it was such a beautiful moment, and I loved being able to witness their love in the stunning landscape of the valley.
When I originally scouted the location, I was so excited to have the shoot take place at this very spot, but I couldn’t have imagined how beautifully the photos would turn out! Sancia from the Toth’s Photo and Film captured this day perfectly, and her photography and editing style (as well as her kind and supportive personality) added so much warmth and authenticity, I couldn’t have asked for a better photographer to collaborate with on this shoot!
Here’s what Sancia had to say about her and her husband’s approach:
For the stationery I designed, vow sheets and place cards, I wanted to pull from the natural tones that were already present in the setting. Hues like brown, wheat, tan, and cream were utilized to give each stationery piece a rustic, earthy feel.
If I could describe my vision for this shoot in one word, it would have been: texture. I was so happy that so many vendors brought it in spades!! Fall for Florals created a stunning floral centrepiece for the table, and there were vintage rentals from Prairie Bazaar which added richness to the rustic bohemian aesthetic.
The table runners were custom designed and hand woven by a talented local artisan, Avelane Wall Art. They were such a unique addition to the shoot; I loved seeing them blow gently in the wind! Rina was so incredible to work with, and the pieces she supplied for the shoot were jaw-dropping (as you can see!).
So as I considered the “cake” options for this inspiration shoot, I knew I wanted something rustic, informal, and colourful. When I talked to Vicki from Pretty Sweet Co, she completely read my mind and suggested a Berry Galette! - Which in case you didn’t know is the fancy name for a rustic free-form pie/tart - the exact thing I had pictured but didn’t know the name of! And Pretty Sweet, the professionals that they are, took my inspiration and created the most stunning (and delicious) berry galette for the dessert.
Becca and Reid have been married for 3 years! Their love for each other way so evident throughout the shoot, and I am so happy they were a part of this styled shoot. Genuine and authentic can’t be faked, and their love and kindness to one another just added more dimension and authenticity to this styled session. If you want to see their stunning elopement (which was actually photographed by the Toth’s Photo and Film as well!), check it out here on Junebug Weddings.
A vow renewal like this one can be a very intimate affair, and so I styled a small intimate setting for Becca and Reid to be able to finish their evening as the sun set. It involved hot beverages, vintage mugs from Prairie Bazaar, that delicious berry Galette, and slow dancing in a barley field.
I was so happy when I heard that Wandering Weddings wanted to pick up our shoot to feature it on their blog!
Their aesthetic gravitates towards warm and welcoming love, and they feature fantastic elopements with beautiful landscapes.
Here’s their feature of our lovely shoot.
